The Medical University of Graz (MUG) became an independent university in 2004 and was established in 1863 by Emperor Franz Joseph I as the Faculty of Medicine at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz.
The Department of Neurosurgery of the Medical University of Graz is the exclusive provider of primary neurosurgical care for the Austrian federated state of Styria, serving a population of approx. 1’230’000 with state-of-the-art infrastructures including advanced intra-operative imaging techniques and a dedicated intensive care unit.
Covering the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems, special areas of expertise include skull base surgery, neurovascular surgery and neuro-oncological surgery, the latter in close cooperation with the Departments of Neurology (section of neuro-oncology) and Radiation Therapy.
